Comitment, the commitment involved in running a dirt car team is tremendouse.  If you have a full time job, witch most racers do.  It's off to work in the morning and after work, it's off to the garage to work on the car for most of the night.  The closer it gets to race day, the longer the hours are working on the car.  The pit crew play a very valubale part in this.  To have dependable pit crew members is very important.

 

Finantial commitment.  If your lucky enough or good enough to have many generouse sponsors, the less you have to worry about  the financial end.  Sponsors are important, not only for the money but the team in general.  The looks of the car are much better with nice sponsor graffics.  Better equipment means a driver has a better chance to run up front.  And running up front means the sponsorers look better.

 

Depending on how the race went, top 5 or 10, finnish or broke or god forbid a crash.  You still have a lot of work to do for the next weekend.  It starts with washing the car, getting all the mud off for inspection of the car front to back, top to bottom.  Susspention travel, rearend parts, welded brackets and much more are all looked at with an experianced eye.  The good teams take this to an extream.

 

Racing season for dirt trackers in the southwest is usually April or May, to Sept. or Oct. for the regular season.  Then there are winter races.  November, December, Jannuary and Feburary.  Usualy big money races.  No points, just race to win.  Good races for testing.  Testing that new car or rebuilt motor.  Not to mention a good chance to make a little extra money.  And sponsor exposer should always be top of the list.

 

Racing is a lot of fun.  But it also can be brutal and unforgiving.  One of the many nice things about racing is when you are out on the track, racing with all the others, it's you and the car.  What ever you get in racing, you earn!
